Welcome!

Welcome to the website of St. Mary & St. Martha of Bethany Episcopal Church in Buford, GA. We are a beautifully diverse parish of disciples of Jesus Christ.

You have visited our website at a particularly exciting time in the life of this parish. We have outgrown our former Church campus because of our many developing and thoughtful parish programs. We have moved to a more appropriate-sized Church campus where we continue to praise God and follow the teachings of Jesus Christ.

If you are seeking a community in which you are safe to love and be loved—you can find it here. I invite you to explore the rest of our website to get a sense of who we are and what we are up to. And may the peace of God surround you now and remain with you forever!

Faithfully,

Tim+

Wednesday Night Adult Faith Formation
In the past semester of Adult Faith Formation on Wednesday nights, we have shown each other how we individually and collectively pray.  But, did you ever wonder: What does God say about prayer?  How did Moses, Abraham, Job, Ruth, David, Esther, Mary and Joseph pray? Did Jesus say prayer was important?  How do we know?   How did he pray? Come explore all of these questions and more on Wednesday Nights in the Narthex/Nave.

Adult Faith Formation Winter Semester
In the past semester of Adult Faith Formation on Wednesday nights, we have shown each other how we individually and collectively pray.  We learned about centering prayer, praying the rosary, walking labyrinths, Novenas, the Daily Office and so many other ways we all pray. But, did you ever wonder: What does God say about prayer?  How did Moses, Abraham, Job, Ruth, David, Esther, Mary and Joseph pray? Did Jesus say prayer was important?  How do we know?   How did he pray? How did our Church Forefathers pray? (Paul, Peter, John, James and the other Apostles)  What did they teach us about prayer?  Come explore all of these questions and more in our new Bible Study on Wednesday Nights in Room 204.

What to Know… Before you Go!

Each of us will die. When we die, it falls to members of our family, friends, distant relatives, or total strangers to plan our services and burials. Planning such things when you are grieving is both hard and time-consuming. Often members of the surviving family live far apart and have never discussed these matters. When the time for planning arrives, they can have very different ideas about what the deceased person would have preferred or about what would be appropriate. The best way to avoid this struggle, and even disagreement about what should be done, is to make your own plans. It is a thoughtful and loving gift both to your family and to yourself.  You simply leave written instructions saying, "This is what I prefer." Join us for a workshop to do just that. We will discuss Christian theology of death and dying and explore elements of funeral planning and other important considerations like advance medical directives and living wills. Give your loved ones the gift of peace and assurance by making your wishes clear. Saturday, May 5, 2012, 10:00 AM-2:00 PM. Lunch and workbooks will be provided so please R.S.V.P. by Tuesday, May 1st to Tara Cowen at 770-271-4067 or episcopalbuford@bellsouth.net.
